There is this fun CAL, 2015 Moogly CAL on Ravelry, and I'm glad I joined it. On the fourth square of the CAL, however, I had difficulties making the border as directed on the pattern so I changed it to something I designed.
A few of the fellow crocheters asked if I can give the pattern to how I did the border, but as I designed it instantly while crocheting, it really is hard to write the instructions so everybody can do it. And I also worked on the spaces between posts instead of stitches, so a stitch count is very hard to make.
But, here are close up photos of the border I've made, both front and back, with some weird circles in different colours. Pink circles indicate that they are triple crochets. You can see that they ate actually front post triple crochets, that uses the post of the previous round. The round crocheted with the orange yarn is done with half double crochets, with 2 chains in the corners. If you look closely (which you can, because the photos are big) to the fan shape crocheted with the purple yarn, you'll see that there are 6 posts, it's because I used the spaces between posts and not the stitches to crochet into. So the sc2tog with the orange yarn is to the spaces on either sides of the single crochet with the blue yarn.
I really hope this helps the observer to figure out how to make it. You see, it's very hard for me to instruct an How-To. Please feel free to ask anything either here or at my project page at Ravelry.
Then I decided making something crocheting: I did the sole first, before deciding how to do the upper part.

It all came improvisationally, I tried a few times to give the round and fit shape, and succeeded (there is a little fault, but goes away while wearing) .
And there had to be buttons and they had to be catching, so I dived in mom's old-buttons box and came back with these strikingly yellow ones, vintage I may say.

The result was quite satisfying for me. I wear them all the time except either when they are being washed or getting dried :)
It is sort of hard for me to write a full pattern, but I can give you some numbers so that you will have a starting point. I used a bulky wool/acrylic blend yarn with 9 mm crochet hook. The yarn is actually suitable knitting with 10 mm needles, but I had to have my slippers thicker and firmer. I started with 6 chains after the initial loop, and then continued on the next row with single crocheting every chain so I had 5 stitches (some experienced crocheters will know what I am talking about). After that, I increased the first and the last stitches of the rows by two (made one stitch two stitches) until I had 13 stitches (I'm not superstitious, moreover, I have a thing for prime numbers :) . After it was my sole length, I decreased, as I had increased, to 5 stitches. This is the sole, then I picked stitches and crocheted in the round, shaped (by decreasing), and finished. That easy... ;)Mehlikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18266040779499180860noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10564418.post-54190732222729979422008-02-27T20:51:00.005+02:002009-05-10T02:15:00.038+03:00Great quizzes (and definitely not about your love life..)Surfing around, I ran into this beautiful blog and took the quiz being talked about. Had my soup and apple pie, ordered the bill. Everything was very good until I reached my back pocket on the right and felt nothing instead of 20 liras banknote, and, reached the back pocket on the left and there was my other 20 liras just about to jump out. Well, where the back pockets are is the most moving part of the body, which makes stupid to use as actual pockets, and the design eventually made me pay a modest raki-appetizer-fish amount of money for soup and apple pie... This is how it goes on weekdays, and, well, it's a bit strange that I can't explain how I get to the end of the weekend (I can actually :). I need the day of the week more in number and hours of the day longer, so I can at least follow my favorite blogs. So, please don't be angry with me if I am not following your work, I'm not even following mine :PMehlikahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18266040779499180860noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10564418.post-1165782321797202282006-12-10T22:10:00.000+02:002007-10-15T12:45:21.763+03:00Come fly with me Leo...
Leonardo da Vinci's Ornithopter

I've visited the genius of Leonardo exhibition this Saturday at Rahmi M.
