Illustration Friday Peace

I know, I know, she ought to be flying, and carying an olive branch, but you know in this world we're living in, it is not that possible as we have war everyday everywhere. This one I have here, as you would see, is a digitally manipulated photographic image, so manipulated (as peace is nowadays) that she is actually a regular dark gray pigeon. Not the reason I used the color but take a look at this http://www.sensationalcolor.com/content/view/842/130/, it's interesting. Why I preferred this colour is that it relaxes my nerves to the other meaning of "peace" extend :)

Yesterday...

I learned that my ex got married and dumped my belongings I had forgotten to take when I returned home. Didn't bother to send them to me. one of them was a neck wrap my sister had given me as a gift, and the other one was an open work cardigan mom had knit for me, which was the important thing becouse it was black and mom is old so it is hard for her to knit an openwork black cardigan, but she did it for me, and that ... (excuse me for what I really want to write here but prefer not to in order to be polite to the blogworld) gave them away. No, his wife gave them away and bla bla bla. ... .

Büyük bir adam hakkında küçük şeyler... / Small things about a great man...

/Above are, as you can see, playing cards, but what is important is that they were designed by Semih Balcioglu, that I have mentioned a few posts ago, my favourite caricaturist, you may visit a little of his work here (also mentioned before)

Oh, by the way...

Remembering I was complaining about how I don't have a camera and how much I cannot post photos of my projects, all knitting and etc., as I introduced my new digital camera couple of posts ago, you might wonder why I still do not have any projects posted; here is the answer to that: I don't have time, simple as that, I leave home for work at around 7 thirty-8 in the morning (work starts at 10 - I often can't make it), work 'till 6 in the evening and come back home at around 9, eat dinner, soon fall asleep in front of the TV. This is how it goes on weekdays, and, well, it's a bit strange that I can't explain how I get to the end of the weekend (I can actually :). I need the day of the week more in number and hours of the day longer, so I can at least follow my favorite blogs. So, please don't be angry with me if I am not following your work, I'm not even following mine :P

Come fly with me Leo...

Leonardo da Vinci's Ornithopter

I've visited the genius of Leonardo exhibition this Saturday at Rahmi M. Koc Museum, great exhibition, real genius, at one of the most beautiful places on earth, go/come see the museum which is astonishing, and visit the exhibition wherever you come across, especially those who think Leonardo da Vinci ıs the famous painter of the woman with a wierd smile...

Missed posts

We lost one of the best caricaturists of our country, best to me, Semih Balcioglu (Semih Balcıoğlu) on October 27th (I will expand on this later). Elio's exhibition was postponed to a not-yet-known date because of the flood disaster happened last week which 39 were dead in 13 cities.

Illustration Friday - Ghost

I haven't been around the Illustration Friday neighbourhood for a long long time, and to be honest, this one is not THE illustration to come back, but, 1-I am not an illustrator 2-I had fun doing this(and it is the most important thing) 3-I like my name shown among really good works of art :)

It is not always so easy to give a title to each post...

Fires in the Dark V1
Fires in the Dark V2
Fires in the Dark V3

Those three above are the links to the three versions of the book I have written about in
here (I decided to mention again and in English after Ascender's comment here. It is a book to read, besides it's nice covers.

Well, I have not posted here about knitting for a long time, mostly because I am working now and do not have much time to knit a lot. But more important is that I feel lazy about taking pictures of what I am doing and more lazy about writing patterns which really is a work to do. So here I have this free texture pattern I first wrote, then tried but never used in a finished knitted piece (I will, some time...)
You will need multiple of 12 stitches
R1: *K3, P3*
R2: *K2, P2*
R3: *K1, P1*
sure you repeat within the *s and these three rows
Easy to knit, reversible, you can try it far quicker than I post an image of it.
Bye for the next time I am on the blog....

Studio Friday - Room with a View

Well, this actually is how my room looked like 2 years ago. Now I have a table by the head side of my bed in front of the window where I have my computer (and many other stuff) and I still have a lot on the floor. The thing is that this is my bedroom and 'my' room as far as I am living with my parents, and my room and everything in it coming over me is the biggest brightest sign that the time to move to an apartment has already come, and&but the money I earn is only enough to rent a room just like this one so I live here for now...

Scarf and Wrist-Warmers

Here you go with an awful photo of my cozy scarf. It is 280 cm long, plus 20 cm fringes. It is 20 something cm wide -- well it does not stay still . I cast on 30 stitches with this yarn and worked with this pattern until I finished with 3 bals of yarn. Then I cut pieces of almost 40 cm long and tied two pieces to each stitch for the fringes.

And these are the wrist-warmers, knit in a night.

SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW, SOMETHING BORROWED, SOMETHING BLUE!

Hi there, this is my first post for Studio Friday and I am late...
This piece has a "story", the fabric is a piece from my granma's old shirt, my mom did the edges when she was about 10 -- now 63 -- to practice the doing-the-edges. And than my sister when she was about 10 -- now42 -- made the dog. Now I -- 28 -- use it as a cover for my small radio. Not that the radio needs a cover, I just like keeping this piece around me...

Illustration Friday Tea

I had finished this watercolour in the drawing course. What is important here for Ilustration Friday is the authentic Turkish tea glass.

HOW TO MAKE TURKISH BLACK TEA
Have a teapot and a kettle. Put one spoonful of tea for each tea glass in the teapot and rinse with cold water to wash away the dustlike particles. Put water into the kettle, place the teapot on it and put the kettle on a stove to have the water boiled. Pour boiled-and-calmed-down-for-a-minute water into the teapot. Put some more water into the kettle, put the fire to half when boiled, and wait until there is no bubbles on the surface of the tea in the teapot--which means that your tea is ready to be served. Pour some from the teapot with the help of a strainer and fill the rest of the tea glass with water from the kettle. Decide if you like your tea dark or light, with sugar or without. You can also add a few drops of lemon juice, but never milk.

She's no badluck...

North Star Anyone?

I have seen this kind of north star everywhere, knitted items, cross-stitches, beads and on and on... but...
I had never seen a proper chart for a basic North Star, so I decided to make it myself. Used the blank chart from here, and painted in Photoshop. Well, enjoy, it is free for non-commercial uses...

This and that

Here comes a new one, 100 % wool superwash. I knit this in two days (but not in 48 hours). 100 % my design. Photo two is my nephew wearing it.

This is the yarn. I bought it for 2 liras (almost 1.5 dollars or 1 euro) per ball two years ago from the same shop mentioned here . (2 yıl kadar önce 2 milyona aldım 100 gramını, yerin tarifi burada)

I knit it with 6 mm straight needles and sew on the back. It cost me almost one and a half balls(150 grams). Very cozy.

I also did a scarf and wrist/hand warmers out of this yarn (not the same ball, of course) and I'll post the photos later.

Here are my little ones (not so little anymore...)

This is my nephew, my sister's son, 15.

And this is my niece, my brother's daughter, 11.

P.S. I would not like to manipulate but as long as I am not a nominee, I wish he wins.

Parents in Mihrabad

These are my parents, the photograph was taken last year in Mihrabad Grove (Mihrabad Korusu) up Kanlıca, on the Asian side of beautiful Bosphorus. Check this. The place is no more a piece of nature, it has a café, a restaurant and on. Check this (in Turkish).

Back Home

One of the things I have in progress is this:

Strickland/Multicolor
%75 Superwash Wool %35 Polyamid
420 m/100 gr
2,5 mm
33 stiches=10 cm

I knit the tip first, starting from the green mark:

Then I picked the stiches and start knitting in the round up the way. I knit with different color where the heel is, I knit up, increasing and decreasing where necessary, bind off, and than I take the different color yarn out, and pick the stiches, and knit as if I am knitting the tip. Photos, and if I can manage the pattern to come...
